Association between reproductive traits and four microsatellites in Brangus-Ibagé cattle Genet. Mol. Biol.
Oliveira,João F.C. de; Neves,Jairo P.; Almeida,Eric A.; Steigleder,Clara Sabina; Moraes,José Carlos F.; Gonçalves,Paulo Bayard D.; Weimer,Tania A..
The aim of the present study was to verify associations between reproductive efficiency and four microsatellite markers located in synteny with genes involved in the regulation of reproductive mechanisms. A sample of 107 females from a Brangus Ibagé population (5/8 Aberdeen Angus x 3/8 Nelore) was characterized for ETH225 (D9S1) and MM12E6 (D9S20) microsatellites, mapped on chromosome 9, and HEL5 (D21S15) and AFZ1 (D21S37) on chromosome 21. Associations between the genetic markers and reproductive efficiency were determined by one-way analysis of variance using calving interval (CI), live weight at calving (LWC), live weight at first calving (LW1C) and live weight at second calving (LW2C) as dependent variables. The genotypes were classified according to...

Genetic characterization of a brangus-ibage cattle population: biochemical polymorphisms and reproductive efficiency Ciência Rural
Henkes,Luiz Ernani; Papadopolis,Lídia Gonzalez; Steigleder,Clara Sabina; Moraes,José Carlos Ferrugem; Weimer,Tania de Azevedo.
Biochemical techniques were used to investigate the genetic variability in a Brangus-Ibage population by determining allele frequencies of 18 blood protein systems: Hemogloin beta-Chain (Hb), Albumin (Alb), Amylase (Am), Transferrin (Tf), Carbonic Anhydrase (CA), Ceruloplasmin (Cp), Malic Enzyme (ME), Diaphorase I and II (Dia I and Dia II), Slow Alpha 2 Macroglobulin (Ap), Acid Phosphatase (ACP), Esterase B and D (EstB and EstD), Phosphogluconate Dehydrogenase (PGD), Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G-6-PD), Glucose-Phosphate-Isomerase (GPI), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Glyoxalase I (GLO). The percentage of polymorphic loci were estimated at 0.27, the mean number of alleles was 1.33 and the mean heterozygosity was 0.07. There was a good agreement...

Genetic diversity in a Brazilian bovine herd based on four microsatellite loci Genet. Mol. Biol.

Microsatellites or short tandem repeats (STRs), DNA markers relatively abundant in the genome, have a high degree of polymorphism and therefore great potential for characterizing populations. The present study estimates genetic variability in a set of four microsatellites (BMS3013, BMS3004, HEL10 and TGLA122) in a Brazilian hybrid bovine breed (5/8 Aberdeen Angus x 3/8 Nelore). The objectives were to determine the effect of crossbreeding and selection in these animals' genetic diversity as well as to discover the herd's genetic relationship with that of other breeds. Low diversity was verified in BMS3013 and high diversity was detected in BMS3004, HEL10 and TGLA122. Two alleles in TGLA122 are described here for the first time (TGLA122*155 and TGLA122*163)....

Identification of molecular markers on bovine chromosome 18 associated to calving interval in a Brangus-Ibagé cattle herd Ciência Rural
Weimer,Tania de Azevedo; Steigleder,Clara Sabina; Machado,Márcia Silveira; Almeida,Sabrina Esteves Matos; Oliveira,João Francisco Coelho; Moraes,José Carlos Ferrugem; Henkes,Luis Ernani.
In the detection phase of a bovine marker assisted selection program, this paper investigated the genetic variability of three microsatellites on the chromosome 18 (BTA 18). The possible associations between genotypes or alleles of these markers versus weight at first calving and a lifetime calving interval (as indicators of reproductive performance) were evaluated in a beef cattle herd (5/8 Aberdeen Angus x 3/8 Nelore). Eleven alleles were detected in TGLA227 and ILSTS002 and three in BMS3004, the most frequent being TGLA227*79, ILSTS002*133, ILSTS002*135 and BMS3004*129. Polymorphic information content ranged from 0.41 to 0.84, while heterozygosity ranged from 49% to 86%, with an average value of 77%. The association analyses performed between genotype...
